luminous adj.
e.g. It was briefly one of the most luminous stars in the galaxy.

knoll n. a small natural hill 小山丘
The home, set on a quarter-acre knoll, has views of the city, the Hollywood Reservoirand the Hollywood sign.

  kindle v.
Recently in class I saw the fire of an idea flicker in a first-year student's eyes - and so to kindle it I cold-called him.

The teacher’s praise kindled a spark of hope inside her.

  jostle v.
In jerusalem, great religions have crowded and jostled their way down through millenniums.

  jut v.
From its long beak juts a fearsome tooth.

jabber vi. talk in a noisy, excited, or declamatory matter
e.g. A parrot jabbered atop its cage and a monkey squealed and batered at its bronze ring, until its owner brought banans.
Listen to the jabber of this parrot and monkey....

  jargan
technical terminology characteristic of a particular subject

e.g. Their jargon is impenetrable to an outsider.

  imperious adj.
  词根 imper = command 表示"命令、统治"
If you describe someone as imperious, you mean that they have a proud manner and expect to be obeyed.
  1) It was a little scary how quicky he flipped from friendly to imperious.
  2) A person, who is imperious and tries to gloss over his fault, is bound to suffer in the end.

imperial palace, imperial family, imperial tradition.....

impending adj.close in time; about to occur
e.g. First, he gives the enemy 12 days of warning about impending air attacks.

illuminate v. make free from confusion or ambiguity
If you illuminate something that is unclear or difficult to understand, you make it clearer by explaining it carefully or giving information about it.
例句:The problem is that for illuminating answers, you need to ask the right questions.

To illuminate something means to shine light on it and to make it brighter and more visible.
e.g. The sun illuminate the sky.
Torches illuminated the picnic area.

ignite v. When you ignite something or when it ignites, it starts burning or explodes.
e.g. Firefighters say the blaze started when stain-soaked rags ignited on the front porch.

  再举个例子:Petrol ignites very easily.

At times, you feel like you're struggleing to run forward, going through the motions but making no headway, frozen in place.

If you say that someone is going through the motions, you think they are only saying or doing something because it is expected of them without being interested, enthusiastic, or sympathetic.
You really don't care, do you?' she said quietly. ' You're just going through the motions.'

I hope you all make remarkable headway in your English skills.

1)v. if you hasten an even or process, often an unpleansant one, you make it happen faster or sooner.
e.g. Rather than wait for that day, he set out to hasten its arrival.

  2) v. if you hasten to do something, you are quick to do it.
e.g. His manager was hastening to grab a pen and sign that contract.

  3) v. if you hasten to say something, you quickly add something to what you have just said in order to prevent it being misunderstood.
e.g. He hastened to add that he knew nothing about the fraud at the time.

4)v. if you hasten somewhere, you hurry there 赶往、赶去
e.g. Their flight is about to take off, they have to hasten to the boarding gate.
